Why should I join IIRM?

IIRM is  jointly setup by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDA) and Government of Andhra Pradesh. The management board of the Institute is headed by the chairman of IRDA. The Institute is therefore based on solid foundation and is in a position to offer quality education.

Who runs the IIRM?

Shri Vepa Kamesam is the Managing Director of the Institute. Shri Kamesam was  earlier Managing Director of SBI and Deputy Governor of RBI. He took over as Managing Director of the Institute in  May 2005. Shri G N Bhaskar Rau, Shri S.V.L.N.Sarma and Shri P. Rajeshwar Rao, faculty of the Institute  act as Faculty Coordinators of the Courses. In addition the Institute has other in-campus faculty and about 12 visiting faculty drawn from industry who will help students during their contact classes.

Who  organizes  Distance Learning Courses?

Shri P Murali Krishna, who functioned as Registrar and Head of Distance Education at Central University of Hyderabad, organises the distance courses of the Institute.

If I join a course of the Institute what academic help would I get?

Each student admitted to a Course of the institute will be provided with study material and also a list of  reference books to be consulted.


Whom  should  I consult if I need some assistance in my studies?

Shri G N Bhaskar Rau shall be faculty Coordinator for Life Insurance, Shri S.V.L.N Sarma for General Insurance and P. Rajeshwar Rao for Risk Management. They may be contacted on Email for all  doubts and clarifications.


What is so special about  the Courses of IIRM?

The Courses offered by the Institute  are vetted by the Chartered Insurance Institute, London(CII). Students who successfully complete the Course with 55% marks in each subject will be given exemption in 7 papers of the Associateship Exams of CII.  This is a unique value proposition.

What are Associateship Exams?  How will it help me if I pass them?

CII conducts Associateship Exams periodically and those who pass 10 subjects with 55% marks are awarded ACII designation. However since IIRM's IPGDI Diploma holders are given exemption for 7 subjects, they have to appear for 3 subjects only to get ACII designation.  It is a globally recognised qualification and is a sign of confidence, commitment and professionalism. By acquiring ACII qualification, you can seek employment in insurance industry in any  country.

Is International PG Diploma recognized by insurance institute of india ( III ) ?

Insurance institute of india ( III ) has exempted licentiate and associateship ( Life and Non-life ( general ) to the students of IIRM who have completed PG diploma if they appear for fellowship exams of III and pass atleast one subject of fellowship exams.

Where should I appear for ACII examinations?

CII London conducts examinations twice in a year at several centres spread all over the globe. Since IIRM is an affiliating institution of CII, the Institute is chosen as one of the Exam Centres for ACII examinations. Therefore you can appear ACII examinations from your  own Institute at Hyderabad.

What  Courses are offered by the Institute under distance mode ?

IIRM offers three Courses this Year 1. International Post graduate Diploma in Life Insurance (IPGDLI) and 2. International Post graduate Diploma in General Insurance (IPGDGI) and 3.International Post Graduate Diploma In Risk Management (IPGDRM)


What is the duration of these courses? How many subjects  should  I  pass to obtain PG Diploma? 

All PG Diploma Programmes are of one year duration – two semesters each of  about 16 weeks duration. You have to study 5 subjects in each Semester. In all, you  should  pass 10 subjects with at least 55% marks in each subject to enable you  obtain PG Diploma from the Institute.

How can I know that I am  eligible for admission to these Courses ?


To be eligible for the distance Courses of the Institute, you should be employed professional with minimum   Graduate degree in any discipline (including Engg / Management ) with 50% marks either at graduation level or at higher level . Self employed second class Graduates (with 50% marks either at graduation level or at higher level)  who are above 30 years of age  may also be considered for admission. However, if you are a sponsored candidate or working in financial sector ( like banks, mutual funds, insurance industry etc..) restriction of securing 50% marks at the graduation will be waived, neverthless copies of the marks sheets of the qualifying exam are to be submitted.


Why should there be restriction of age and experience? Should it not be enough if one is a graduate?


All distance courses, by its nature, are self study courses. One should be able to grasp on his own the study material provided to him. Unless the candidate has prior basic knowledge of insurance or mature enough to study and understand on his own, it may not be easy to successfully pursue distance courses of the Institute.

What is the criteria for selection of candidates for admission?


Selection of candidates for admission will be based on the weightage  given for the qualifications and experience of the candidates.

The Course Fee quoted by the institute appears to be   high when compared to similar courses offered by other universities. why should I pay that much amount for IIRM course?

All courses offered by IIRM are 'Value-added courses'. By obtaining PG Diploma from the Institute, you will be recognised as professional in Insurance Industry. Also our PG Diplomas are internationally recognised and the candidate will have the advantage of getting exemption of 7 papers out of 10 prescribed for ACII qualification The IIRM has to spend substantial amount to maintain its relationship with CII.

Is there any fee concession for sponsored candidates ?

A rebate of of 25% on the course fee will be allowed in case of companies sponsoring not lessthan 5 or more candidates at the time of admission

If I join the program of IIRM what other help would I get (in addition to the reading material) from the institute?

IIRM conducts  contact classes in each semester for the benefit of students. To avail of this benefit, you have to register your name sufficiently in advance. Only those who have registered their names would be permitted to attend the contact classes  organised by the Institute.


Where should I appear for my Exams if I join IIRM programme?


All Exams of the Institute are conducted at  Hyderabad and you have to make your own travel and accommodation arrangements to attend them.


If I fail to secure 55% in any particular subject what should I do ?

IIRM conducts re-sit Exams for those who score less than 55% in a subject which is the pass-mark  . You  can try to improve your percentage upto the required level in the re-sit Exams.

How many chances will I get to pass the failed subjects?

You have to complete the course in all respects within a period of three years commencing from  the year of enrolment. The institute conducts Exams twice a year - in May and November. You can appear in the failed subjects during this period and try to obtain the Diploma.


Is there any Placement Facility for distance students?

Since students admitted are already working graduates, there may not be any need for it.
