Mr. CHRISTOPHER DAVID DAYKIN
 
Mr. Christopher David Daykin has done his honors degree in mathematics and completed his MA (Cantab) in 1973. Mr. Christopher started his career as Actuarial Officer in Government’s Actuary’s Department (GAD) in 1970. In 1971, on Voluntary Service Overseas he taught mathematics and English for a year in Brunei. In 1973 he qualified as Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and he was seconded as Technical Adviser to Government of Montserrat for reviewing finances of provident fund from October and December 1976. During 1978-1980 he seconded to Treasury with responsibility principally for expenditure on the National Health Service.

During his tenure with GAD, he worked in areas of pension funds, benefit planning, computer applications, valuations and funding advice, population projections and demographic studies, consumer credit, advice on non-UK social security and health insurance schemes. During 1980-82 he was in charge of supervision of insurance companies (life, non-life and reinsurance). He was responsible for advising Department of Trade on issues related to individual non-life companies and for the examination of certain life companies’ returns. During 1985-1989 he was Directing Actuary (Social Security) and his duties included responsible for advice to Department of Health and Social Security on the financing of the UK Social Security scheme and on associated matters of national pensions policy, including contracting out and personal pensions. He also represented UK on European Council Working Party on equal treatment directive for occupational social security schemes. Further he was also responsible for demographic work, including production of national population projections.

In 1989, he became Government Actuary, Chief Executive, GAD and he was responsible for overall responsibility for all actuarial advice to the UK Government and public sector and overseas clients. He was Head of Actuarial Profession in UK Civil Service.

He is also honorary visiting professor to The City University, London (from June 1997) Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (from September 1998).

He published monographs not only in English but also in French and Spanish and his research papers were acclaimed in the international forums. He has won many awards and honors.
